SimpleRisk – transforming risk management. simple. Automated. effective

Importing and Exporting in SimpleRisk

Introduction

This video will cover the features and practices required for both importing new risks and assets as well as exporting Risks, Reviews, and Mitigations. This feature is only available to those who have purchased the Import/Export Extra or otherwise have access to the Import/Export function via a bundled Package.

Instruction

To start using the Import/Export Extra you must first navigate to “Configure” at the top and then to the “Import/Export” menu on the left. The Import/Export menu includes four sections.

The first section is simply used to Activate and Deactivate this Extra feature.

The second section is used to import risks. To import risks, you must first choose the file from which you want to import the data. With SimpleRisk, you can import any set of Comma Separated Values, or CSV files for short and map it to any value that SimpleRisk stores.

Once you have selected the file and clicked the “Import” button, a list of the values contained in the first row of the CSV file being imported will be displayed, along with dropdown boxes adjacent to each value.

Each dropdown will contain a list of all of the corresponding values in SimpleRisk to which you can map.

If the CSV is not formatted to include column descriptions, you have the option to check the box next to “Import the First Row” at the top of the section. Once all the corresponding values have been mapped, you can save the mappings associated with the import by simply typing a name in the box labeled “Save Mapping As” near the bottom of the import section. Once you’ve completed this process, you can click on the “Import” button and the Import Risk section will list the ID’s of all risks created during the import.

The third section includes the Export options. All SimpleRisk exports are in a CSV format. While these files should not be viewed as a replacement for performing backups, it is a highly efficient way to port information out of SimpleRisk into other tools or, for creating special reports. Each of the options in this section operate as described in the UI and files are always exported with entirety of that given information type. This holds true for risks, reviews, and mitigations. The “Export Combined” function in this section allows you to export all available information associated with all risks in one single CSV.

The fourth section is for importing assets. The exact same process is used to import assets as the process that was used to import risks, which was previously discussed. The only difference is that your Mapping options will be limited to Value descriptions that describe an Asset.
